Viagra, the medicine used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction (DE), has found a new use, in the rescue of small children admitted to pediatric hospitals, in the intensive care unit. Australian researchers have offered the drug to 15 newborns with congenital heart disease.
It has been found that a dose can prevent a common complication - pulmonary hypertension. It has also been observed that the drug reduces the time spent by children in intensive care and under mechanical ventilation, by relaxing the arteries and reducing pressure.
