Lavinia Sandru on the Law of Mothers
At the beginning of October, the European Commission issued a legislative proposal regarding the extension of maternity leave in the European Union from 14 to 18 weeks and a remuneration with 100% of the wages of women after birth.
Both proposals were to be debated through the co-decision procedure by the European Parliament and the Member States within the Council in order to establish an agreement during 2009.
In Romania, the Law on the allowance after birth was passed Monday by the Chamber of Deputies, and the final vote is expected on Wednesday.
Thus, according to Pro TV news, starting in 2009, the mothers who choose to stay home after the birth of the child will be able to receive 85% of the taxable income obtained in the last year, if it exceeded 800 RON, and those who had a higher salary small will be able to opt for the 600 RON, the compensation offered by the state plus the allocation of 200 RON.
Until now, regardless of the income obtained before birth, each employed mother received only 600 RON / month if she stayed home with the baby in the first two years, to which is added the sum of 200 RON, representing the child's allowance.
At the same time, the election is also based on the desire of mothers with higher salaries to return to work sooner.
The deputies will give the final vote for this law on Wednesday, after which it will be promulgated and enter into force on January 1, 2009.
In the Romanian Reality we read statement by the Minister of Labor, Mariana Campeanu: "I was mandated by the PCB and the Government that today (Monday - no), in the Parliament, to uphold the law with the allowance of the moms to be 85% of the taxable income and not less than 600 lei, as provided. in the current law. "
Regarding the state budget, Mariana Campeanu declared for the Romanian Reality: "There is money. I do not think it is a problem, because the percentage of women with a career and a very high salary is very low and, more than that, they support with all the strength that a woman with a political career and a professional career will never stay home for more than a year. "
